Alright, Toss Boss fam — the 2026 men’s Final Four is set, and it’s the kind of lineup that makes you cancel plans, ignore texts, and suddenly become a “basketball analyst” with a snack budget and strong opinions.
We’ve got Illinois vs. UConn to open the night, then Arizona vs. Michigan in a heavyweight paint-war that’s going to feel like two teams trying to score exclusively in the restricted area out of spite.
And yes — before we go any further — Duke is out. Which is great for UConn, terrible for my bracket, and a personal reminder that March is a liar.
Let’s get into it.
Game 1: (3) Illinois vs. (2) UConn — Prediction + Keys
What’s happening here
UConn just pulled off one of the wildest comebacks you’ll see — down big to Duke, then freshman Braylon Mullins hits a logo three with basically no time left. That’s the kind of shot that turns a freshman into a campus legend and turns the opposing fanbase into a group chat therapy session. Now they’re in the Final Four with a chance to repeat.
But the engine for UConn has been Tarris Reed Jr. He’s been a problem all tournament, and if UConn is going to survive Illinois, it starts with him being dominant again.
Illinois, meanwhile, has been known all year for offense… but the plot twist is their defense has shown up in March. They’ve been protecting the rim, shrinking the paint, and making good teams look like they forgot how to finish layups.
Matchup swing points
Can Illinois slow down Reed without fouling? If Reed gets rolling, UConncan control tempo and keep Illinoisfrom turning it into a track meet.
The 3-point math: Illinois shoots a ton of threes. UConn hasn’t been consistently elite from deep, but they’ve also defended the arc well lately. If Illinois wins the perimeter battle cleanly, they can flip this game.
Toss Boss prediction
UConn 76, Illinois 71.I trust UConn’s experience, their ability to adjust mid-game, and Reed being the best “steady bucket” on the floor when things get tight.
Game 2: (1) Arizona vs. (1) Michigan — Prediction + Keys
What’s happening here
This is a paint points showdown. Arizona lives at the rim, lives at the line, lives on the glass — basically Arizona’s offensive identity is “why take a jumper when we can just run through you?”
They’ve been relentless: post touches, offensive boards, downhill guards, free throws — the whole package.
Michigan is built like a Final Four team: size, defense, stars, and the ability to hit a gear that makes the other team look like they’re playing in slow motion. Their Elite Eight performance was the most complete game of the tournament so far.
Matchup swing points
Arizona’s rim pressure vs. Michigan’sinterior defense: Michigan blocks shots, defends twos, and doesn’t foul much. Arizona wants fouls and paint touches like it’s a subscription service they refuse to cancel.
Michigan’s 3-point shooting: If Michigan hits threes early, Arizonacan’t just load up inside. That opens space for their bigs to eat.
Toss Boss prediction
Michigan 79, Arizona 75.I think Michigan’s defensive discipline (especially not gifting free throws) plus timely perimeter shooting is the difference in a game where both teams want to win the same real estate.
And look — Michigan might be out here trying to win every sport on the planet, but they still can’t beat Ohio State in football. If Michigan wins the championship, congrats — but we still own them in football.
Toss Boss Championship Game Pick (early)
Michigan 74, UConn 72.
I’m projecting a grinder where Michigan’s defense finds one more stop.
And yes, I’m aware that saying anything confidently in March is how the basketball gods humble you — which is exactly why I’m doing my own picks next year. Duke already taught me the hard way.
