The Big Ten showdown between No. 5 Nebraska and No. 3 Michigan lived up to its billing, delivering drama, intensity, and a result that will be talked about for weeks. Nebraska entered Ann Arbor riding a 24-game win streak—the longest in over a decade—and boasting a perfect 20-0 record. Michigan, nearly as dominant at 19-1, was eager to defend its home court and make a statement.

The first half was a shootout, with Nebraska catching fire from deep, hitting 10 of 19 three-pointers and taking a slim 50-48 lead into halftime. Despite missing key contributors Rienk Mast (illness) and Braden Frager (ankle), the Cornhuskers controlled much of the game, showing why they’ve been the talk of college basketball this season.

Michigan’s resilience shone in the second half. Morez Johnson Jr. anchored the Wolverines with 17 points and 12 rebounds, keeping his team within striking distance. The game’s pivotal moment came with just over a minute left, when Trey McKenney drove to the basket for a tiebreaking layup, giving Michigan a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Nebraska’s offense stalled in the final 3:20, failing to score as the pressure mounted. The Cornhuskers had two chances to tie or win in the closing seconds, but missed a three-pointer and a last-second jumper. Michigan held on for a 75-72 victory, snapping Nebraska’s remarkable streak and sending shockwaves through the conference.

Both teams now sit at 9-1 in Big Ten play, setting up a thrilling race for the regular season crown. Nebraska will look to bounce back at home against No. 9 Illinois, while Michigan faces a tough road test at No. 7 Michigan State.

This game was a showcase of elite college basketball—high stakes, clutch performances, and the kind of atmosphere that makes the sport special.
