Reds 5, Rangers 3: Cincinnati Wins the “I’m Fine (I’m Not Fine)” Game in Arlington

If you’re new here, welcome to Reds baseball—where a two-run lead is basically a coupon for anxiety, and the ninth inning is a group project nobody asked for.
But on April 3, 2026 at Globe Life Field, the Reds actually did the thing: Reds 5, Rangers 3, improving to 4–3 and 1–0 on the road. And yes, it still came with the usual emotional turbulence, but this time we landed the plane without losing a wheel.
Top of the 2nd: Steer hits one to the moon (and my blood pressure follows)
Eugenio Suárez singles, and Spencer Steer decides he’s done with small talk. He launches a two-run homer (399 feet) to left-center.
2–0 Reds. For about 90 seconds, I experienced peace. Then I remembered peace is not on the Reds’ active roster.
Bottom of the 2nd: Texas ties it because happiness is illegal
The Rangers immediately answer with a two-run double by Danny Jansen. Tie game, 2–2.
Classic Reds Fan Experience: you take one sip of joy and the universe slaps it out of your hand like, ‘Oh, you thought.’
Top of the 6th: Elly De La Cruz commits baseball violence
Tie game still hanging around like an unwanted pop-up ad, and then Elly De La Cruz hits a solo homer (385 feet) off MacKenzie Gore.
3–2 Reds.Elly’s power is so casual it’s disrespectful. Like he’s late for dinner and just needs to wrap this up real quick.
Bottom of the 7th: The wobble (aka “here we go”)
The Rangers tie it again: Nimmo triples, Langford doubles him in.
3–3.At this point I’m mentally drafting the postgame: “Well, we showed fight,” which is sports fan code for “I am dead inside.”
Top of the 9th: Steer + Stephenson = emotional refund issued
Steer doubles, then Tyler Stephenson hits a two-run homer (382 feet) to right-center.
5–3 Reds. That ball left the yard with the confidence of someone who already paid their tab and doesn’t need to look back.
Bottom of the 9th: Pagán closes it like a responsible adult (!)
Emilio Pagán comes in and gets it done for save #2, ending it with a strikeout of Nimmo.
No weird bloops. No “why is the tying run on third with one out?” No sudden existential crisis. Just… closure. Actual closure. I didn’t know the Reds offered that.
Toss Boss Takeaways
Steer: homer + double, 2 RBI, certified menace.
Stephenson: game-winning bomb, 2 RBI, hero behavior.
Elly: homered because gravity is optional.
Reds bullpen: let the Rangers tie it in the 7th, then said “enough” and slammed the door.
Pagán: pitched a clean 9th for his second save of the year. Responsible adult behavior confirmed.
Final word
The Reds won a road game, hit three homers, and didn’t turn the ninth inning into a horror movie. That’s not just a win—that’s personal growth.
Reds take Game 1, 5–3.Now let’s win the next one too—preferably by 12 so I can live to see summer.
