That’s how you take care of business at Great American Ball Park.
The Cincinnati Reds shut out the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-0 on Monday night, riding a dominant start from Chase Burns and just enough offense to make it stick.
Burns set the tone
Chase Burns was nasty in his first win: 5.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 7 K, 3 BB.Pittsburgh never got comfortable, never got a big swing, and never got a run.
The 4th inning was the difference
The Reds finally broke through in the bottom of the 4th—and that was all they needed.
Spencer Steer lifted a sac fly to bring home the first run.
Will Benson followed with an RBI triple to make it 2-0.
Two runs. One inning. Game over.
Bullpen finishes the job
After Burns, the Reds’ pen handled the rest. Carson Phillips closed it in the 9th for the save. The Pirates finished the night 0-for-6 with RISP.
