The Reds took the season-opening series with a 3-2 thriller on Sunday.
That’s how you finish an opening series at home.
The Cincinnati Reds beat the Boston Red Sox 3-2 in the finale and won the series 2 games to 1, thanks to one massive swing from a familiar face and a bullpen that finished the job.
Boston struck first
The Red Sox grabbed a 2-0 lead in the 4th when Wilyer Abreu launched a two-run homer to right-center after Willson Contreras singled. Reds rookie Rhett Lowder battled, but Boston cashed in on the mistake.
Then Geno flipped the whole game
Bottom 6th inning, the Reds finally broke through—and they didn’t do it quietly.
With two runners on, Eugenio Suárez jumped on an 0-2 pitch and crushed a massive three-run homer to left-center. Just like that: Reds 3, Red Sox 2, and Great American Ball Park was rocking.
It was Suárez’s first homer since rejoining the Reds, and a reminder that some guys are just built for big moments in this uniform.
Bullpen holds the line
From there, it was all about finishing. The Reds’ relievers handled the late innings and Emilio Pagán came on in the 9th and slammed the door for the save, stranding the tying and go-ahead runners.
Final
Reds 3, Red Sox 2 Reds win the series, 2-1.
