As of mid-Sunday morning — SEC final set (Vanderbilt vs. Arkansas after Vandy's upset over Florida), with both conference finals still to play (SEC: Vanderbilt vs. Arkansas tipping ~noon ET on ESPN; A-10: Dayton vs. VCU ~1 PM ET on CBS)
The wait is finally over. Selection Sunday has arrived, and the madness is about to officially begin.
With just a handful of conference tournament finals left to play, the 2026 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament bracket is nearly set. By 6 PM ET today, the selection committee will unveil the official field of 68 — but until then, let's break down everything you need to know about who's dancing and who's sweating.
The Top Seeds
Duke has locked up the top overall seed, cementing their dominant regular season and conference tournament run. The Blue Devils will be the team to beat when the tournament tips off.
The Four Regions at a Glance
East (Washington D.C.): Duke
Midwest (Chicago): Michigan
West (San Jose): Arizona
South (Houston): Florida
Florida clings to the South's top line despite a stunning SEC semifinal loss to Vanderbilt (91-74), with metrics still supporting them over challengers like UConn and Houston. Meanwhile, Michigan and Arizona have solidified their positions as legitimate title contenders.
The Bubble Battle
This is where it gets intense. The most generous read on the at-large bubble shows seven teams in the mix for 3–4 remaining spots:
Missouri
Miami (Ohio)
SMU
Texas
Oklahoma
Auburn
San Diego State
However, Missouri looks increasingly safe after posting strong metrics and quality wins down the stretch, while Auburn and San Diego State teeter closer to the edge.
Last Four In (projected): Miami (Ohio), Missouri, SMU, Texas
First Team Out: Oklahoma
A special note on Miami (Ohio): Despite a 31-1 regular season record and a shocking early MAC tournament loss to UMass (87-83 in the quarters), their WAB (Wins Above Bubble) and overall metrics suggest they're likely safe — though their weak strength of schedule keeps them in the conversation. Per consensus models, Miami (Ohio) holds as a Last Four In despite the MAC stumble — WAB keeps them ahead of edges like Auburn and San Diego State.
Bid Thief Alert
There's one wild card scenario still in play: With the A-10 championship still to play (Dayton vs. VCU tipping ~1 PM ET on CBS), a Dayton win (as bid thief) could force VCU into at-large contention and shrink the bubble to seven teams competing for just three spots — hitting SEC and Big 12 edges hardest.
Multi-Bid Conferences
The power conferences are flexing their depth:
SEC: 8–10 teams (depending on bubble outcomes)
Big Ten: 9 teams
ACC: 8 teams
Big 12: 8 teams
Big East: 4 teams (possibly 3–5 depending on results)
West Coast: 2–3 teams (Gonzaga lock, Santa Clara debated)
Mid-American: 1–2 teams (Miami Ohio likely in via at-large)
Atlantic 10: 2 teams (VCU + potential thief scenario)
The Heartbreak Watch
For the teams on the outside looking in, today will be agonizing.
First Four Out: Oklahoma, Auburn, San Diego State, New Mexico — meaning any slip-up by a bubble team could thrust them back into contention.
Next Four Out: Indiana, Stanford, Cincinnati, Seton Hall — for these programs, the dream is all but over.
Key Games to Watch Today
SEC Championship: Vanderbilt vs. Arkansas (~noon ET on ESPN) — winner gets auto-bid; impacts SEC bubble count (8–10+ possible)
A-10 Final: Dayton vs. VCU (~1 PM ET on CBS) — potential bid thief implications
Other watch: Any late auto-bid flips if underdogs pull off upsets
What Happens Next?
Tune in at 6 PM ET for the official Selection Show. Until then, we'll be monitoring every conference championship result and updating our projections in real time.
One thing's for sure: Somewhere today, a locker room will erupt in celebration, and another will sit in stunned silence. That's March.
Let the Madness begin.
