What a way to kick off March Madness.
TCU (No. 9 seed) defeated Ohio State (No. 8 seed) 66-64 on March 19, 2026 (approx. 12:15 p.m. ET tip) at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, SC, on CBS.
TCU built a 15-point halftime lead (39-24) behind hot perimeter shooting and a stronger presence on the glass. Ohio State roared back after the break—outscoring TCU 40-27—using better passing and inside buckets to drag it into a final-possession game. The Buckeyes even tied it at 64-64 on a clutch late three from Bruce Thornton, but with 4.1 seconds left, Xavier Edmonds muscled in a contested layup in the paint while double-teamed to deliver the winner.
TCU’s edge showed up in the team totals: 24-for-60 (40%) shooting, 9-for-23 (39%) from three, 38 rebounds, 12 assists, and 7 turnovers. Ohio State shot 24-for-57 (~42%) but went cold from deep at 6-for-23 (26%), finishing with 32 rebounds, 18 assists, and 7 turnovers.
Edmonds led TCU with 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 2-for-3 from three—then capped it with the game-winner. For Ohio State, D. Royal (14 points) and A. Bynum (12 points, 9 assists) powered the comeback, with Thornton providing the late dagger that nearly completed it.
