BREAKING: Brewers Sweep Dodgers — World Series Bound for First Time Since 1982
The Milwaukee Brewers are going to the World Series.
Milwaukee swept the back-to-back champion Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 in Game 4 of the NLCS at Dodger Stadium on Thursday night, winning the franchise's first National League pennant — its first trip to the Fall Classic since 1982.
The Brewers trailed 4-0 after a Shohei Ohtani three-run homer in the second inning. They had no business wrapping this up in four games. They did it anyway, ripping off six unanswered runs. Garrett Mitchell's go-ahead homer in the sixth inning gave Milwaukee the lead for good, and Aaron Ashby's three scoreless innings slammed the door.
One year after getting swept by these same Dodgers in the NLCS, the Brewers exacted sweet revenge. They're now the first team in MLB history to sweep a best-of-seven postseason series in which they trailed in every game — and the first team to finish a postseason sweep after being swept by the same opponent the previous postseason.
Milwaukee, which topped the majors with 103 wins this season, will face the Cleveland Guardians or Tampa Bay Rays in the World Series opener on Oct. 23.
