BREAKING: Unranked Auburn Stuns No. 1 Georgia 27-24 on Walk-Off Field Goal
The No. 1 team in the country is dead. Again. Unranked Auburn just walked into Athens as a 19-point underdog and ripped out Georgia's heart with a 34-yard walk-off field goal — 27-24. That's the second straight week the AP No. 1 has fallen to an unranked team. First time since 1990.
Georgia had this one. Up 14-0 early in the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry, then Auburn ripped off 24 unanswered. The Dawgs clawed back to tie it 24-24 — and then Gunner Stockton fumbled with 58 seconds left on a potential game-winning drive. Auburn needed two plays to get in range, a roughing-the-passer flag made it easy, and Alex McPherson drilled it as time expired. Ballgame.
Byrum Brown was the man: 115 yards and a score on the ground plus a passing TD. Stockton (22-of-34, 272, 2 TD, 2 INT) threw it away twice and lost the fumble that ended it. Auburn hadn't won in Athens since 2005. It also snaps Georgia's 53-game winning streak against unranked teams.
Auburn (4-2) gets No. 22 LSU next week. Georgia (6-1) gets a bye before Florida on Oct. 31. And the playoff picture? Chaos. Total chaos.
