Ohio State did what it was supposed to do. The Buckeyes beat Maryland 45-16 at the Shoe, and it was never really a game. 449 yards of offense to Maryland's 146. That's a beatdown with a scoreboard.

Jeremiah Smith went for 4 catches, 93 yards, and 2 scores. Electric, as always — but the three-straight-200-yard record watch is over before it started. He wasn't close to 200 tonight, and that's fine. He's still the best receiver in college football.

Julian Sayin threw 4 touchdowns on 13 of 21 for 242 yards. One pick-six was the only blemish, and Ohio State answered it with a 25-yard Bo Jackson touchdown two minutes later. Jackson finished with 107 yards and 2 scores on the ground. Nate Roberts only caught one pass — it went 68 yards to the house.

Maryland scored 16. Take away the pick-six and a first-half field goal drive, and they were never on the field. Buckeyes are 5-1, and the real test walks in next Saturday: at Indiana, October 17.
